Suspicious Package Found on Plane Flying from Yemen to Chicago


CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—October 29, 2010.  A suspicious package was found by U.K. investigators on a plane flying from Yemen to Chicago when it stopped in London on Thursday night resulting in some airports being placed on high alert Friday.

According to investigators, the suspicious package contained a ‘manipulated’ toner cartridge which tested negative for explosive material.

Kristin Lee of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reports that TSA is currently investigating reports of suspicious packages on UPS cargo flights in Newark, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  A UPS truck in New York is also being investigated.  Ms. Lee stated that TSA was acting “out of an abundance of caution.”

Victoria Lupica, spokesperson for the Philadelphia International Airport that, “the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being met by law enforcement officials and swept.”

Mike Mangot, a UPS spokesperson, said that investigators were examining another UPS plane in Newark.  A New York City bomb squad is responding to a report of a suspected explosive device inside a package aboard a UPS truck.  UPS is said it is working closely with authorities.
