Congresswoman Duckworth Announces Co-Sponsorship of Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–October 15, 2013. On October 14, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced her co-sponsorship of H.R. 15, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. This bill contains many of the same provisions included in the immigration reform bill that passed the Senate in July.

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, enactment of the bipartisan Senate-passed comprehensive immigration bill would reduce the deficit by $850 billion. The CBO also estimates that the Senate-passed bill would increase economic growth by 3.3% in 2023 and 5.4% in 2033.

“Our rich immigrant history has helped make us the strong and diverse nation we are today,” said Duckworth. “It is crucial that Congress pass comprehensive immigration reform that is practical, fair and humane. This past summer, the Senate passed comprehensive immigration reform for the 11 million undocumented individuals who are living in the shadows. Now it’s the House’s turn.”

This co-sponsorship by Congresswoman Duckworth comes during Hispanic Heritage Month.

“Latinos are a vital part of our nation, economically, culturally, and politically,” Congresswoman Duckworth said. “As the fastest growing ethnic group in our country, the 52.5 million-strong Hispanic community makes America a stronger nation.  And over several generations, American life has been enriched by Hispanic contributions in many sectors, including business, education, government, and the arts.”
