Alsip, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Sertoma Centre celebrated National Direct Support Professional Appreciation Week September 8-14, by recognizing the more than 100 Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who are committed to serving individuals with disabilities at Sertoma’s two facilities in Alsip, IL and ten Community Integrated Living Arrangements (CILA) homes throughout the southwest suburbs.

A direct support professional is a person who assists an individual with a disability to lead a self-directed life and contribute to the community, assists with activities of daily living if needed, and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion. A DSP also acts as an advocate for the disabled individual, in communicating their needs, self-expression and goals.

At Sertoma Centre, individuals with developmental, physical, or emotional disabilities and/or mental illness are provided services in a variety of areas including vocational training, day programs and residential care. Developing essential skills for an independent, productive life is the purpose of Sertoma Centre, Inc.

Sertoma Centre, Inc. is extremely proud of their DSP staff and thanks them for the “Great” Work they do each day. Special activities and surprises were held each day of the week-long celebration.
