In posting about adults who are reported missing, we would seek to remind the public that an adult voluntarily leaving is not a criminal act, and that privacy concerns of an adult reported missing are always weighed against informing the public. Generally, the public is not informed until other investigative steps have been exhausted or if there are articulable reasons to be concerned for the individual’s safety. We would also remind the public that there is no minimum waiting time to report a person missing, and that investigation into the person’s whereabouts begins immediately.
