Police: Man Stabbed and Slashed During Domestic Disturbance

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Park Forest police were dispatched to the 100 block of North Arbor Trail Apartments on December 5 in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival at the front of the apartment complex, Detective Morache observed a woman walking along the northeast side of the building toward the police car. As the woman got closer, the detective observed that her clothing appeared to be covered in blood. At that point, the detective observed a man lying on the floor of the lobby covered in blood.

Detective Morache went to the man on the ground and observed multiple lacerations to his head, face, hands and stomach. The detective radioed to have paramedics respond to the scene. When asked what happened, police say the man just moaned and did not answer any questions.

Police say another woman in the lobby said that she was the one who called police. She said that the victim was her stepfather and that he and her mother had been having marital difficulties and had been arguing while in their bedroom.

The detective followed a trail of blood to the apartment where the woman’s mother lived. A woman opened the door and a detective observed a large puddle of blood in the middle of the living room floor. The detective also located Sadieh K. Sutton, 20, 7852 S. Essex, #305, Chicago, who was taken into custody. When Officer Greer arrived, he observed a woman later identified as Badeh K. Cruz-Smith, 46, 133 North Arbor Trail, #109, Park Forest, walking on the concrete patio on the north side of the building. Police say Cruz-Smith had blood on her hands and head.

Police interviewed the victim at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields who told them that he and Cruz-Smith had been having marital problems. Police say the victim told them Cruz-Smith had taken his keys and cell phone earlier that day and they began to argue when he told her he wanted to property back. He said that as they argued, Cruz-Smith allegedly took a book and struck him in the face, causing his nose to bleed. At that point he said he told her he was going to call the police and started walking toward the living room. He said Cruz-Smith walked up behind him and he felt pain on the top of his head. Turning, he saw Cruz-Smith allegedly stabbing him.

Police say the victim stated that he struck Cruz-Smith, trying to get her to stop stabbing him, but she continued. The victim said Cruz-Smith then yelled for her daughter, Sadie Sutton, and allegedly told her, “Grab him and hold him.” The victim said Sadie Sutton allegedly held him down as Cruz-Smith continued to stab and slice him. When they got off him, he got up and walked to the lobby of the apartment complex, police said.

Badeh K. Cruz-Smith and Sadieh K. Sutton were arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery.
