Sting Nets Suburban Chiropractor for Alleged Unpaid Child Support

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–September 29, 2009.  A suburban chiropractor, wanted in Champaign County after allegedly not paying thousands of dollars in child support, was arrested after an officer from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department posed as a patient in need of chiropractic care.

Gaylen Bohlin, 69, of LaPorte, Ind., was arrested Thursday at his clinic in Chicago Heights. Officers with the sheriff’s child support division had been pursuing Bohlin since being notified Sept. 21 of a warrant issued for his arrest. Officers were told Bohlin owes $9,400 in unpaid child support. Tammy Shafer, of Champaign County and represented by Urbana attorney Thomas P. Sweeney, notified the Cook County Sheriff’s Department of the warrant and her case against Bohlin.

Officers had staked out offices Bohlin operates in Cook County, but had been unable to locate him at those addresses. Last week, an officer walked into his Chicago Heights clinic posing as a prospective patient and asked to see Bohlin. That officer observed Bohlin in the office and notified other officers to enter and make the arrest.

When those officers approached Bohlin, he informed them that he could not leave with them because he had “a patient in a great deal of pain” who was sitting in the waiting room, according to police. Informed that the awaiting patient was an officer, Bohlin was taken into custody.

Bohlin was jailed on $50,000 bond.
