Cook County, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Bond has been set at $250,000 for a Ford Heights man arrested after robbing a liquor store at gunpoint, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Monday.

Michael Nelson, 18, of the 1500 block of Senator Lane, has been charged with armed robbery with a firearm.  A second man involved in the crime is still at large.

On the afternoon of Dec. 17th, Nelson and his co-conspirator entered a liquor store located on the 900 block of Lincoln Highway in Ford Heights.  The two men wore black masks, black hats and hoodies and demanded money, but the victim recognized the gunman, as Nelson frequented the store as a customer.  When Nelson pointed his gun at the victim, the man engaged in conversation with him, even calling him by his nickname “Lil Mike”, because he thought it was a joke.  Only after Nelson and his accomplice became aggressive and threatening did the store manager realize the situation was serious.  The manager then opened the register, Nelson’s accomplice took cash, and both men fled the store.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police detectives put out a wanted bulletin for Nelson after the victim identified him through a photo array.  Nelson was tracked down and arrested on Friday.  Officers continue to search for the second offender.

Nelson was also charged with domestic battery and aggravated assault in a public place after threatening his girlfriend with bodily harm, choking her and putting a gun to her head shortly after the robbery.

Nelson appeared in Markham bond court on Sunday.  His next court date is January 3rd, also in Markham.
