Three Nabbed in Alleged Storage Break-Ins

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–July 5, 2011.  Three men have been arrested in connection with the theft of property from a south suburban storage facility, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Tuesday.

David Yate, 40, of the 3200 block of Kinne in Robbins, received a $30,000 bond; Bennie Jackson, 26, of the 400 block of East 134th Street in Chicago, received a $30,000 bond; and Darren Jackson, 24, also of the 400 block of East 134th Street, received a $20,000 bond.  All have been charged with two counts of burglary and one count of theft.  They appeared in Markham bond court July 1st.

The three men conspired to target a storage facility located on the 16100 block of George Brennan Highway in Bremen Township.  On June 26th, one of the offenders rented a storage locker with the purpose of gaining access to the gate code for the facility.  That evening, the group drove an empty U-Haul truck to the storage business and using various burglary tools, cut the locks on seventeen storage lockers.  They removed items that could easily be sold at flea markets.  The offenders stole approximately $6,000 in tools from one storage locker owned by a painting company.  After filling the U-Haul with stolen items, the three men drove to Harvey, where they met a fence who gave them $800 for the goods.

The next day, while completing her rounds, the manager of the storage lot realized the lockers had been broken into, and immediately suspected the offenders.  Two days later the group returned to the storage facility in an empty U-Haul, intending to break into additional units.  The manager saw them enter the premises and contacted police.  Officers with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police and Markham Police Department detained the men for questioning.   One of the offenders admitted to the break-ins, and all three were charged in connection with the thefts.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police are questioning others who may be involved in the crime, and believe the group has broken into other area storage facilities.  Investigators are in the process of determining exactly what was taken from the Bremen Township storage lot, and the total value of the stolen property.

The next court date for David Yates, Bennie Jackson and Darren Jackson is July 20th in Maywood.
