Recycling Fundraiser Helps Sustainability Efforts at Prairie State College

CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–October 3, 2013.  Prairie State College (PSC)is participating in the FundingFactory Recycling Program. Students, faculty, and staff at PSC, as well as community and businesssupporters can drop off ink cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and laptops in the atrium of PSC, located at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.PSC will then send the waste products to FundingFactory in exchange for at least 10 cents per item that will be used to further sustainability efforts on campus.

The effort is spearheaded by Allessandra Cairo, sustainability coordinator at PSC.

“It is wonderful to see the college support the recycling efforts of the sustainability center and offer an environmentally responsible alternative for disposing of these types of items for both our internal and external communities. More than 125 million cell phones and 500 million printer cartridges enter the waste stream, annually,” she said.

“In addition to providing a responsible alternative to discarding these items, the college has a chance to capitalize on these items through a joint recycling effort with Funding Factory,” she added.
