Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–December 1, 2010. Scientists and natural resource managers from the United States and Canada sent a letter to President Obama urging him to safeguard the extraordinary natural values of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain. The 170 scientists, including ecologists, wildlife and conservation biologists, natural resource managers, and cultural anthropologists from the United States and Canada, encouraged the president to take action on this historic year—the 50th anniversary of the Arctic Refuge—to ensure permanent protections for the Arctic Refuge from oil and gas development and exploration.
