Sierra Club and Celebrity Friends Gear Up for Earth Day 2012

Jessica Alba, Stan Lee, Octavia Spencer, Mayor Bloomberg, and others share their favorite outdoor wild places and open spaces

SAN FRANCISCO–(ENEWSPF)–April 10, 2012.  Millions of people from all backgrounds recreate, retreat and recharge in our parks, national monuments, wilderness areas and other public lands.  For the 42nd annual Earth Day, the Sierra Club is celebrating the mountains, deserts, grasslands, forests and whitewater rapids that make up the great outdoors and remain a defining part of the American spirit.

Jessica Alba, Bob Weir, Octavia Spencer, Laura Prepon, Allison Janney, Will Forte, Josh Jackson, Stan Lee, Tim & Eric, Coco Austin (wife of Ice-T), and Michael R. Bloomberg, philanthropist and Mayor of New York City, among others, wish America a “Happy Earth Day” and share their favorite national and neighborhood wild places and open spaces in a special video produced by the Sierra Club.  From the Berkshires to Big Sur, find out which lands they talked about.  Then, visit the web site to submit your own clip and find out which pieces of America people hold close to their hearts.

Sierra Club Founder John Muir believed that if you brought people outside and they fell in love with the land, they would feel inspired to protect it.  Make a pledge to spend more time outside this year and enter to win a trip for two to the North Cascades in Washington State!  Pack your boots for rustic walks to see the 312-foot Rainbow Falls, the impressive chasm of Agnes Gorge, and the glacier-clad peaks and autumn-hued mountainside from the shoulder of 8,000-foot McGregor Mountain.  The trip is timed to coincide with the arrival of vibrant fall colors!  Prize package includes airfare, car rental, most meals, seven nights of accommodations and premium Borealis Backpacks from The North Face filled with gear from the Sierra Club.

Looking for more outdoor adventures?   Download the Sierra Club’s newest free app, Trail Explorer.  Trail Explorer provides an easy way to explore and enjoy the wilderness in your own backyard or across the country.  Find, record and share information about 40,000 North American trails quickly and easily on your iPhone.  In addition, thousands of Sierra Club outings are featured on AllTrails.com.  Of course, you don’t need an iPhone to get outdoors—check out Sierra Club Outings for more trips for all ages, abilities, budgets, and interests.
