School Districts 163, 227 Conduct Swearing-In Ceremonies

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— School Board 163 held a special session on Monday, May 14 to swear in new board members. Virginia Ford, Cheryl Franklin and Walter Mosby each won 4 year terms. Melvin Pumphrey and Paul Jasinevicius won two year terms. Before the election was proclaimed official, Board President Virginia Ford offered some comments, "This board has worked so well together, and we are truly going to miss Shirley McDonald who has been with us for several years. She has given so much positive input to us. And Sunday Umoren, who was good enough to step up and apply for a vacancy when Mr. Pounder resigned, and has brought a wealth of knowledge with him. And I just want to say to both of you, we will miss you." Ford presented plaques to outgoing board members.

Officials from the Village of Park Forest also were in attendance at the meeting. Village Manager Tom Mick was invited to stand with Dr. Joyce Carmine as the oath of office was administered to the new board members.

The board selected Virginia Ford as President, Margaret McDannel was elected Vice-President, and Kim Elmore-Perkins was chosen to be Secretary.

School District 227 Selects New Officers

In other school district news, the Board of Education for District 227 also held a reorganizational meeting on May 14.  

All Board members joined the two newly elected members, Jacqueline Upshaw and Emmanuel A. Imoukhuede and re-elected member W.A. (Tony) Brunson, in reciting the Oath of Office.

After the new Board members were seated, votes were cast to elect officers for the Board. The election yielded the following results:

  • W.A. (Tony) Brunson, President
  • Yvette Moten, Vice-President
  • Melonese Brookins, Secretary

The complete Board of Education for Rich Township High School District 227 consists of: W.A. (Tony) Brunson, President Yvette Moten, Vice-President Melonese Brookins, Secretary Emmanuel A. Imoukhuede Sonya Norwood Betty Owens Jacqueline Upshaw.

In addition, Margurite Martin was appointed Interim Principal for Rich Central High School
